2011 was a very tough year for business operations in general. The VND550 billion (US$26.4 million) bridge is one of three built in response to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s urgent directive to separate railway and road traffice on bridges. The old bridge will be upgraded and used exclusively for railway traffic.It is hoped that the new bridge will prevent traffic jams, ensure traffic safety, contribute to socio-economic development in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, and boost trade between Hanoi and the two localities. Rail and motor vehicles share traffic on Ghenh Bridge. This proposal came in response to the accident on Ghenh Bridge on February 6, resulting in 26 injuries and 6 deaths. This bridge is located in the southern province of Dong Nai.The corporation proposed to use state budget funds or Government bonds to finance the construction, a company official said.He noted that if the proposal is approved, the company will start these projects in May, with projected completion in 2015.Up to now, the corporation has upgraded over 20 railroad bridges nationwide, he said, adding that the company is facing difficulties in mobilising enough capital for necessary upgrades to other bridges of Filed Under:, April 8, 2015.

HA NOI — Construction of new Thi Cau Bridge linking northern Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces began yesterday. It is one of the three new bridges to be built as part of a project following Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's urgent directive. The other two are the Dong Nai Bridge in southern Dong Nai Province and Tam Bac Bridge in northern Hai Phong City. The new bridges will be built to separate traffic on existing Dong Nai, Tam Bac and Thi Cau bridges which are currently used by trains and motor vehicles. Thi Cau was one of 10 bridges that were used by both trains and other vehicles, which caused traffic jams and posed high traffic risks. Construction of the new Thi Cau Bridge, 30m away from the existing one of the same name, was aimed at separating road and railway traffic to ensure traffic safety and prevent congestion, Director of the Railway Management Board for Region 1 Doan Kim Khen said.
